Anecdote from the region Kveo Kartli

Podczas wykopalisk w pobliżu Dmanisi została znaleziona waza z napisem: V w.p. Chr.. Całe miasto i jego okolice ucieszyli się na tą wiadomość. Wówczas mieszkańcy innego miasta tego samego regionu, Rustavi, zakopali na swoim terenie wazę z napisem: Rustavi X w.p. Chr.  i po miesiącu odkryli ją ponownie podczas prac archeologicznych. W Rustavi wszyscy mieszkańcy świętowali z radości, wszystkie gazety rozpisywały się o tym wielkim wydarzeniu. Dmanisi zażądało przeprowadzenia ekspertyzy w celu uwierzytelnienia wykopalisk. Obydwie wazy zostały więc wysłane do USA. Po kilku tygodniach przychodzi informacja: “Na wazie wykopanej w Dmanisi widnieje napis: Dmanisi, V w.p. Chr.; natomiast na wazie wykopanej w Rustavi jest napis: Rustavi, X w.p. Chr.; a na na drugiej stronie: Zakłady Aluminiowe w Rustavi”.



Kvemo Kartli (Lower Kartli) is located in eastern part of Georgia. It shares border with Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti region in Georgia and Armenia and Azerbaijan in the north. The landscape of Kvemo Kartli consists largely of steppes and forested steppes. The lowlands are characteristic of semi-desert. There are number of volcanic lakes, the biggest lake is Tsalka. Kumisi lake is an interesting area due to the fact that its mud is used for curative purposes in Georgian spas and resorts.

The Algeti National Park is especially interesting offering a large diversity of flora and fauna. It is often referred to as Floral Junction since it supports such an array of flora including plants native to Colchis, Persia, Iberia, Iran, the Middle East and the Caucasus area. But the region is especially interesting in terms of its archeology. Significant archeological excavations have taken place in this region, especially in Dmanisi.

The Dmanisi settlement dates back to the medieval ages but was unknown until ancient human remains. Specialists believe that the human bone fragments found in Dmanisi belonged to a people which lived here 1.7 million years ago. Dmanisi was also the largest fortified fortress-town and one of the most defended towns in Georgia during the middle ages, after Tbilisi. According to historical sources the town of Dmanisi was the summer residence of Queen Tamar.
