Anecdote from the region Racha Lechkhumi
Kilku drwali wraz z psem udało się do lasu na roboty leśne. Po jakimś czasie ciężkiej pracy zmorzył ich głód. Wybrali więc jednego spośród siebie, aby ten dla wszystkich przygotował posiłek. Zakłopotany wybraniec rozglądnął się wokół siebie i zebrał rosnące grzyby, choć pojęcia o nich nie miał i przygotował z nich posiłek. Woń, jaka się po lesie rozeszła, przyciągnęła pozostałych drawli. Pomimo głodu wielkiego, psu skosztować najpierw dali. Zwierzę po zjedzeniu swojej porcji, pognało w las, a za nim kucharz, dla podpatrzenia reakcji po grzybach zjedzonych. A że drwale byli bardzo głodni, pośpiesznie zjedli resztę strawy. Po kilku godzinach kucharz wraca zziajany i mówi przygaszonym tonem, że pies padł na skraju lasu… I wszyscy nagle wymiotować zaczęli w obawie o swoje zdrowie. Na to kucharz dokończył zdanie: No tak padł, ale pod kołami jadącego samochodu, a nie od grzybów.
Racha-Lechkhumi is a region in northwestern part of Georgia which includes the historical provinces of Racha, Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti. Most all of the region is a mountain area and the economy heavily relies on agriculture. The region boasts a diverse landscape of mountain forests and meadows. Racha-Lechkhumi and Lover Svaneti has a humid climate with an elevation reaching up to 2000 meters above sea level. The winter is cold and long while the summer is traditionally short and warm. It is the most sparsely populated region in the country.
Historical sources first mention this region in the 6th century BC. Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti was part of the early Georgian Kingdom, the Colchis Kingdom, which was created in the 7-6th centuries BC. The population of Racha-Lechkhumi and Lover Svaneti is known for viticulture, bee-keeping, production of Dairy products, cattle-breeding and horticulture. Carpenters of Racha are famous throughout Georgia. One of the biggest contributions they have made to Georgian art is the Sakvartskhuli, the chair used b the head of the family. It had three legs and a semi-circular back.
Region Racha-Lechkhumi and Lover Svaneto offer very good possibilities for high mountain trekking and rest. The best place for spending free time is Shaori Reservoir and Shovi health resort surrounded by snowy mountains. Administrative centre of the region is Ambrolauri. Besides in Racha region is strong cultivated more than 60 local species of grape vine including Alexandrouli, Usakhelouri, Mujuretuli, Tsolikouri, Tetra and Ojaleshi.
